SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 2011

 

ORGANISING AUTHORITY

The regatta is organized by ISTION YACHTING in conjunction with ANOIATH in Saronicos Gulf, Greece, from 22 to 29 October 2011

 

1.                  RULES

1.1               The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2               No national authority prescriptions will apply.

1.3               If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

 

2.                  NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at a stand on the dock, at each port.  See attachment 3.

 

3.                  CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0900 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 2000 on the day before it will take effect.

5.                  CLASS FLAG

The class flag (warning signal) will be a white flag with the catamaran’s cup logo.

 

6.                  RACING AREAS

Racing will take place in the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs. 

 

7.                  THE COURSES

The diagrams in attachment 1 show the courses including the approximate angles between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left

 

8.                  MARKS

All marks will be orange cylindrical inflatable marks with a staff displaying an orange flag with the Catamarans Cup logo.

 

9.                  AREAS THAT ARE OBSTRUCTIONS

10.               THE START

10.1           The starting line will be between staffs displaying orange flags with the Catamarans Cup logo on the starting marks.

10.2           Starts may be transferred to the next scoring gate at the discretion of the race committee

10.3           A boat starting later than 20 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes rule A4.

 

11.               SCORING GATES

The scoring gates will be between staffs displaying orange flags with the Catamarans Cup.  

 

12.               THE FINISH

The finishing line will be between staffs displaying orange flags with the Catamarans Cup logo as shown in attachment 1.

 

13.               PENALTY SYSTEM

Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.

 

14.               TIME LIMITS

The time limit for each leg is 8 hours.

Boats failing to finish within the time limit will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes rules 35, A4 and A5.

 

15.               PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

15.1           Additionally to rule 61.1(a), a boat intending to protest shall inform the other boat on VHF channel 71 at the first reasonable opportunity and shall inform the race committee of the boat being protested immediately after finishing. This changes rule 61.1(a)

15.2           Protest forms are available at the race committee boat.  Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.

15.3           The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished.

15.4           Ratings will not be grounds for a protest or a request for redress by a boat

15.5           Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the race committee boat, beginning at the time posted.

 

16.               SCORING

16.1           Races will be scored using the Time on Time system.  (corrected time = elapsed time x rating)

16.2           1 leg is required to be completed to constitute a series.

16.3           In leg 1 each boat will receive 3 scores.  The first score will result from the time the boat took to cover the distance from the start to the first scoring gate.  The second score will result from the time the boat took to cover the distance from the start to the second scoring gate.  The third score will result from the time the boat took to cover the whole course.

16.4           In legs 2 and 3 each boat will receive up to 2 scores.  The first score will result from the time the boat took to cover the distance from the start to the scoring gate and the second score will result from the time the boat took to cover the whole course. 

16.5           The penalties for breaches that occurred before the boat crossed a scoring gate will apply to all scores not decided yet.  The penalties for breaches that occurred after the boat crossed a scoring gate will not apply to decided scores.

16.6           When fewer than 4 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

16.7           When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

 

17.               SAFETY REGULATIONS

A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible on VHF channel 71 or on mobile phone +30 6977611414

 

18.               ADVERTISING AND IDENTIFICATION

18.1           Boats shall display advertising supplied by the organizing authority following the instructions provided at the registration.

18.2           Boats will be identified by unique bow numbers on stickers which will be fixed on both sides.

 

19.               TRASH DISPOSAL

Boats shall not put trash in the water.

 

20.               PRIZES

Prizes will be given to:

a.    The three first  boats  of each leg

b.    The first three boats in the final scoring

 

21.               RIGHT TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS

In participating in the Catamarans Cup 2011 a competitor automatically grants to the Organizing Authority and the sponsors of the race, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition for the said Catamarans Cup 2010 in which the competitor participates and in all material related to the said Catamarans Cup 2010 without compensation

 

22.               DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the Catamarans Cup 2011 entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
